The book analyses the pros and cons of Rational Choice theory for political science. The main argument of the book is that rational choice can enlighten more social phenomena than what most French and German speaking scholar believe. Admittedly, it is not neutral a paradigm; adversaries of Rational Choice are right when they state that it carries some assumptions about human beings and the social world which blind-spot many important questions. However, the axiomatic flavor of this paradigm is certainly not as restrictive as what many people think. The chapters of Mark Aspinwall, G. Schneider, Y. Schemeil, Y. Surel and other co-authors prove that a reasonable use of rational choice can be done beyond the traditional objects of neo-classical micro-economics.
